An Open-Air Rooftop on the 13th Floor

ASEAN On The Edge sits on the rooftop 13th floor of Barton Centre, with open-air seating that looks across central Bengaluru. The high floor keeps it above the street noise while staying in the heart of the city, and the skyline view is as much a part of the experience as the food. The restaurant began as the Thai Terrace and has held its place on the MG Road dining map for over a decade.

A Menu Drawn From Across South East Asia

Most South East Asian restaurants in Bengaluru stay with Thai food. ASEAN On The Edge draws from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam, with each country contributing its own dishes, alongside the Burmese Khaoswe the restaurant is known for. The menu was built by chef Gautam Krishna Putti from recipes and techniques gathered on repeated culinary trips across the region, and the kitchen leans on imported staples such as lemongrass, kaffir lime, galangal, and Gula Melaka palm sugar to keep the flavours close to the source.

Signature Dishes at ASEAN On The Edge

These dishes show the restaurant's range across the region. Most are available in vegetarian versions.

  • Burmese Khaoswe: The restaurant's signature dish, on the menu for more than 15 years and still its most ordered. A vibrant coconut, chilli, and lemongrass curry served with egg or rice noodles and a spread of toppings. Available with vegetables, chicken, prawn, or tenderloin.
  • Akasaka Prawns: Tempura prawns tossed in the kitchen's hot, spicy, and tangy house sauce, one of the top-selling starters. A mushroom version is on the menu for vegetarians.
  • Thai Crispy Chicken: Crunchy chicken in a house honey chilli sauce with basil and spring onions, the most ordered non-vegetarian starter. Also offered as Thai Crispy Lamb.
  • Vietnamese Truffle & Edamame Borek: A vegetarian starter of truffled tofu, edamame, and glass noodles in crisp parcels, served with a dipping sauce.
  • Malacca Curry with Roti Jala: A Malaysian favourite, a light coconut curry served with crisp, lacy netted roti.
  • Nasi Goreng: Indonesian wok-tossed fried rice in a sweet, sour, and spicy Kecap Manis sauce, served with satay, garlic crackers, and pickled vegetables.
  • Phad Thai: The classic Thai flat rice noodles in a roasted chilli, garlic, and tamarind sauce with peanuts and sprouts.
  • Massaman Curry: A rich, creamy curry with roots in Thailand, Malaysia, and India, with kaffir lime, roasted peanuts, and coconut milk, paired with Jasmine rice or Malay roti.
  • Peranakan Laksa: A Singapore Nonya curry noodle soup with coconut milk, spicy curry paste, and egg noodles.

Groups, Private Use, and Ordering Across the Three Outlets

ASEAN On The Edge seats about 30 to 40 guests at a full sitting. It does not have a separate private room, so a private event takes over the whole restaurant. Because all three outlets share the 13th floor, a table at ASEAN can also order Pan Indian dishes from Ebony or drinks from The 13th Floor.
